Padel in Ireland has seen rapid growth, evolving from an emerging sport to an internationally recognised discipline. With increasing participation and rising competition levels, the Padel Federation of Ireland (PFI) has launched a five-year strategic plan to build on past successes and secure the sport’s future.
Key Achievements
PFI has made significant progress in recent years, including:
✅ Affiliation with the International Padel Federation (FIP) and European Padel Federation (FEPA) (2018).
✅ Development of the Irish National Padel Team, competing in international events.
✅ Launch of the Irish Padel Tour (IPT) National Ranking, formalising competition.
Now, with an ever-growing player base, the focus shifts to expansion, high-performance pathways, and inclusivity.
Strategic Priorities
PFI’s plan aims to increase participation, improve infrastructure, and enhance competitive opportunities:
🔹 Nationwide Growth – Supporting the expansion of padel facilities in clubs, schools, colleges, gyms, and residential communities.
🔹 Competitive Development – Strengthening junior and high-performance programs, securing Ireland’s participation in the 2023 European Games, and expanding school and third-level leagues.
🔹 Inclusivity & Accessibility – Rolling out the Women in Sport training programme, expanding wheelchair padel, and increasing disability inclusion.
A Vision for the Future
By 2024, padel is set to solidify its place as a mainstream sport in Ireland, with enhanced structures for growth, governance, and competition. PFI will continue working with international, European, and national stakeholders to ensure sustainable development.
With momentum on its side, padel in Ireland is entering an exciting new era—one of expansion, opportunity, and excellence.
